without any of the subs currently in training, it is just me holding things down in the house. and i will be honest, that is both an honor and a lot of work.

i am responsible for servicing all the ladies right now. every call. every request. every knock at the door. thankfully, there seems to be an understanding that i am a bit short handed. or short tongued, depending on how you look at it. so they have been accommodating with timing and expectations.

Madam, of course, gets me whenever she wants. that part is non-negotiable. but she is often gone during the day handling business, which frees me up to coordinate with the others.

Secretary typically prefers a bedtime sub, but lately she has been calling for me in the mornings, right after she finishes her daily briefing with Madam. something about starting her day properly focused. i make myself available.

Cook has claimed the afternoons. between paperwork and menu planning, she snaps her fingers and has me attend to her needs before returning to her spreadsheets and ingredient lists like nothing happened.

throughout the day, any of them might call for me. i move quickly. i prioritize. i stay attentive. right now we also have two overnight guests, and both have been making use of my services whenever the opportunity presents itself.

i will not pretend it is not a lot. it is. but there is something deeply satisfying about being relied upon. about knowing that i am the one keeping the rhythm steady while the house hums with activity.

this duck is definitely getting used.
