I love my kids. I really, really do. But there is something absolutely wonderful about a summer that has been planned properly. Grandparents, summer camps, sleepovers with friends. Everyone is off having adventures, and mommy suddenly realizes she has four entire days of uninterrupted adult time.
Four. Whole. Days.
Ben and I have been taking full advantage of it. One of my favorite summer routines has become spending an afternoon in the backyard wearing one of my special sundresses. I settle into my comfortable chair with a book and a cold margarita, enjoy the sunshine, and let my service sub concentrate on keeping me very happy.
There is something wonderfully decadent about it. No schedule to worry about. No children unexpectedly coming through the back door. No need to immediately switch from Heather the dominant woman back into Mom mode. I can simply lean back, read another chapter, sip my drink, and enjoy having an attentive man between my legs for as long as I please.
Yes, ladies, this is the life.
And if I have planned everything correctly, I still have several more days before anyone comes home.
Better yet, Cody gets home from work tonight. After the hours he’s been putting in lately, I think my husband deserves some uninterrupted adult time too.
Although knowing me, his definition of “relaxing evening” and mine may be slightly different.
