Last night, everything aligned for us to carry out thing2’s second Conclave-mandated punishment session. My husband was home, and the timing worked perfectly. This is the ongoing punishment ordered by the Conclave for thing2 breaking my husband’s family heirloom.

As I shared before, his punishment involves lashings from my husband’s belt, but with a twist. Thing1 and houseboy each take a portion of the punishment, and thing2 is required to watch before taking his own.

This time, thing1 went first and took all 12 of his lashings. I could see the pain in his eyes, but he stayed composed. Then houseboy stepped up. I’ll admit, I think my husband went a little too hard on the last few strokes. He’s been frustrated with houseboy’s performance lately, and I think he used this opportunity to make a point.

Finally, it was time for thing2’s full set — 25 lashings. I had to ask my husband to pause midway. I could tell thing2 was hurting, and I didn’t want him to break. My husband paused, but I know he thought I was going too easy. Still, thing2 took the rest without complaint. He handled himself well, as always.

It is a good reminder for all boys, husband included, that punishment and discipline is determined by me in this household. Sometimes I may use another to administer the punishment, in this case hubby – but I always maintain control.

Afterward, we all gathered in the family room. I had one last episode of Poker Face to watch, and now all the boys are hooked on it too. So, we finished the night calm and together — a sharp contrast to the intensity of what came before.
