My goal for Men’s Health Month is pretty straightforward. I have to catch up on doctor appointments. All of them. I’ve been behind, I’ve been putting things off, and now it’s time to get serious about my health. So here’s my list of priorities, in order.
1. Find a Primary Care Doctor
I have new insurance and haven’t picked a primary care doctor yet. That needs to change this month. I need to get an exam, a physical, and establish care. This is my first priority.
2. Post-Surgery Follow-Up
I had a minor surgery five months ago and skipped the follow-up. That was a mistake. I’ve started feeling something wrong in that area, and I know it needs to be checked. This is the second thing I’m taking care of.
3. Sexual Health and PrEP Refill
This is one area I’ve been on top of. I take PrEP and I’ve kept my prescription up to date. But if I can’t get in with my new doctor soon, I’ll need to do another virtual visit to refill it. I will not let that run out.
4. Find a New Dentist
Simple but important. I need to find a new dentist and get that relationship started.
5. Knee Surgery Consultation
I blew out my knee in college during a rough game of touch football. It was a bad injury, and I’ve avoided the recommended surgery for like five years. The pain is still intense, and weed is the only thing that helps some days. I stay away from the pain pills my doctors keep wanting to prescribe – I’ve barely survived that path before and I won’t go down it again. But I don’t want pot to be my long-term plan. It’s time to explore the knee replacement option again.
6. Vasectomy
This one might sound extreme to some people, especially since I’m still on the younger side. But I do not want children, and neither does my Goddess. She made it clear that if I want to continue having intercourse with her, I need to take responsibility for birth control. I agree. I’m not a fan of condoms if I can avoid them, so I’m moving forward with getting a vasectomy. I might not get it scheduled this month, but I’m starting the process.
This is what Men’s Health Month looks like for me. Taking care of my body, facing overdue responsibilities, and doing it all in service to the life I want to live with the Goddess I love to serve.
A long list of important and commendable self-health goals. I know you are being closely monitored already, and I’ve now added these goals to your list of commitments for June. A Commendable post, there are important steps here for all men to follow.
levi I’m having a knee replacement myself in the near future. Something I’ve thinking about for almost a year. I consulted with an orthopedic doctor 2 months ago and he suggested I try therapy first which I did. There was no improvement and this past week he agreed after examining my knee again. I have to get a medical clearance from my regular physician then hopefully schedule the surgery in early July. I’ve been told by several people who done this already is take your pain medication and follow the after surgery therapy explicitly and everything should go well. Good luck with yours.
