My Real Pack Leaders

I talk a lot about my boys, but I realized I haven’t shared much about my true pack leaders… my three dogs. Anyone who knows me well already understands that the hierarchy in my home is simple: dogs first, everyone else after. My subs and even my husband know that when it comes to my babies, they come second.
My dogs are spoiled, adored, and treated like the royalty they are. Their needs always come first. If one of them wants attention, everything stops. If a scene is planned and someone starts whining at the door, the scene waits. If a sub is on his knees and my lab wants belly rubs, the sub moves over so I can tend to my boy. I have absolutely no problem interrupting anything to make sure my dogs are happy, comfortable, and fed.
My oldest is my big lab mix. He’s loyal, calm, and likes to act like my protector, always watching over me with that steady gaze. Then I have my two smaller ones, littermates who are some sort of terrier mix. They’re full of energy, personality, and trouble. Together they form a perfect little pack within the pack, always stirring up chaos and keeping everyone on their toes.
They get daily walks, endless treats, and more toys than they can keep track of. The boys know that if a dog wants their spot on the couch, they move. If it’s cuddle time, the dogs take priority. Even my husband knows better than to argue with that rule.
So while I may be the Mistress of my household, my dogs are unquestionably the rulers. They keep us grounded, bring us joy, and remind every person in this home what unconditional love, and absolute authority, really looks like.
Totally get this and very much the same here, its clear who rules the roost and what the order of things is. Had a close call shall we say this month and it very much reminded me to treasure every moment.
A wise lady recently told me that one of the main injuctices of being human is that we outlive our pets. I couldn’t agree more.
