madam is training subs again, which means i suddenly have a shadow. his current name is poodles. i do not know what he is going to have to do to earn a real one, but right now that name fits a little too well.

poodles follows me everywhere. watches everything. tries to help. emphasis on tries.

he cleans like shit. i mean that lovingly, but also honestly. surfaces get wiped but somehow stay sticky. dust moves from one place to another. he does not understand that laundry is not just “put clothes in machine and hope.” colors matter. fabrics matter. heat matters. i have explained this more than once.

then there were the dishes. oh my goddess, the dishes. five broken items. glasses. plates. all gone. one after another like a slapstick routine nobody asked for. cook finally had enough, smacked him upside the head, yelled at both of us, and threw us out of the kitchen.

so now poodles is licking his wounds, i am explaining basics again, and madam is watching quietly. which means lessons are happening, even if we do not hear them yet.

training is messy. learning is loud. poodles has a long way to go. but hey, so did duckie once.
