We’ve officially started work on the new house, and right now it looks more like a construction project than a future home. Which honestly is a little exciting.
thing1, thing2, and scrappy have been staying out there for 2-3 days at a time while they work on the first wave of projects. There’s been a lot of demo already. Pulling up old carpets, hauling junk out of rooms, tearing apart ugly shelving, and starting on the yard cleanup. The property has good bones, but it definitely needed strong backs and obedient boys to start bringing it back to life.
And frankly, they’ve been doing a great job.
The problem is what’s happening back here at the current house.
houseboy stayed behind to keep things running while the others focus on the new place, and I think we’ve officially found his limit. He simply cannot do everything himself. Housework, errands, meals, laundry, keeping things organized, tending to me properly, and handling whatever random thing comes up during the day. It’s too much for one boy.
Now don’t get me wrong. I love houseboy dearly. He means a great deal to me. But competence has never exactly been his strongest trait.
By now you would think the boy would have achieved expert-level laundry skills, wouldn’t you?
And yet somehow, this morning, my white panties came out pink.
Pink.
Apparently one of scrappy’s red shirts made its way into the wash. houseboy looked absolutely horrified when he realized what had happened, while I just stood there holding pink lace underwear and staring at him in disbelief.
The worst part? He had folded them nicely and put them away anyway, apparently hoping I simply wouldn’t notice that half my underwear drawer suddenly looked Valentine themed.
Needless to say, the poor boy got a very long lecture about sorting colors properly.
Still, I suppose these are the growing pains of expanding the household. The boys are working hard, the new property is coming along, and eventually everything will settle into a rhythm again.
As for houseboy – he’s due some remedial lessons on laundry.
