Wood, leather, and even plastic toys can degrade over time. Temperature changes, repeated stress, and poor storage can lead to splinters, cracks, or weak spots. These flaws can make a toy unsafe—splintered wood can tear skin, and cracked leather can lash unpredictably. Before every scene, give your toys a once-over. Check handles, edges, and surfaces. If something looks damaged, don’t use it. Your gear should be as dependable as your obedience. If it’s not scene-ready, set it aside.

Happened here!! At a late afternoon whipping when jeannie and i were trying to get in prescribed lashes before sundown … we were using bamboo plant stakes as canes (the stakes are longer – up to 7ft) and one of them broke at a node on impact, leaving a rough end which cut krissi.
We paused for just a moment to disinfect and dress the laceration. He recovered quickly.
