Rhyme’s Demands
Deprived the strictures of his art
The poet’s lost, without restraint;
To celebrate what’s in his heart
His verse and love both need constraint.
Just as the sonnet’s rhyme requires
That alternating lines each stress
The beat and press of his desires –
Love’s bonds demand of him no less.
The poet hopes not for release,
His only wish is to fulfill
Love’s sweet commands and so find peace
Achieving his Mistress’s will.
This poet and his pen are yours
So long as life and love endure.
